>>34661184This core idea to a good Fakemon is one I've had to argue countless times. The utility design.
This scene in Generations is a perfect example of how this is such an important part of designing a Pokémon. Magnemite has shown that through its odd, simple design how it can be used in a unique way in the Pokemon world. This is what makes Pocket "monsters" different to most, regular monster designs. Objectmons are a unique concept that is difficult to execute well. Magnemite, through its unknown coming to existence with electricity and metal parts (hence Electric/Steel), has such a unique way of existing and battling, it can achieve a niche that no other Pokémon can achieve. Objectmons with great concepts and purpose of existence, can be even better than an animal based Pokemon. But this can only be truly achieved if the artist remembers to construct how it battles, its personality and the habitats it lives in.
Not everything has to be explained in the Pokemon world. Sometimes, vague lore or history can be better than everything being explained. The mystery of the Pokemon world was why it was so grand.
Hopefully, if anyone read these tldrs, they can better understand how to create a Fakemon and even have a different way of looking at Pokemon designs in general. I've expressed these points sometimes in the Fakemon or comfy threads for a while, and I'm glad to see it parroted or expressed by other anons in a similar way. I hope these posts help some artists think of their Fakemon in different ways or take their designs further as I tried to cover points not often covered.
