Hello, /vp/. I'd like to ask your advice.
I've been working on a fan dex for several years. Yeah, I know, ha ha, fakemon all that, look at this loser, etc. etc. But I'd like to ask your opinion.
Like many Fakemon designers, I've been subject to one of the most disheartening things that can happen to us. Namely, Gamefreak coming out with an idea that we came up with ourselves.
That's not something I'm really upset about, of course. That's something that always happens; small reference pools and all that. But in this case, I'm a bit unsure of where to take my project because of the release of this little fellow here.
Honedge is very similar to an idea I've gotten very attached to. Namely, a pair of Ghost/Steel Pokemon based on a longsword and a cutlass respectively. They themselves would be involved in an evolutionary line in a manner similar to Remoraid being necessary for Mantyke to evolve into Mantine.
Basically, these two Pokemon ("Calibassh" and "Cutlassh"), when on the same team with a wolf and ship rat Pokemon, ("Wulfmore" and "Swabrat"), would cause them to evolve into two Pokemon based on a knight and a pirate ("Beozerk" and "Bilgeraid").
Naturally, Honedge comes very close to my concept. So, /v/, I ask your opinion... does this idea of mine seem unique enough that my pair of swords and the Pokemon they influence can exist independent of Honedge, or should I scrap it and rework it like I have so many other ideas when GameFreak rightfully infringes upon them?
If you have any suggestions for an alternative, please don't hesitate to make a suggestion.
