Nevermind the /vp/preon manchildren in their twenties who are uncomfortable with their sexuality or whatever, but consider 10 year old boys, aka the demographic Pokemon is intended for. I'm thinking GF won't call it fairy type for the sole purpose of possibly segregating their fan base, in the event that it is Fairy.
