Some people can pull off a super long, thick beard, but their beards are generally patchy and unpleasant. They could become thicker if they increased their natural testosterone production (getting a good, long and restful sleep each night and eating a balanced diet), but sadly people in general have bad habits when it comes to sleep and diet. I know I certainly don't sleep enough, so I kind of can't blame them.
