When you decide to make the jump to 3d, you have to compete with other 3d games and the standard set by the industry at large. GF did not recognize this and did not do this. Functionally, the "transliterated" their content from the proverbial language of spritework and 2d to 3d, and it looks like choppy, trite garbed on rails. Rather than making a stellar 2d game -- one with top notch modern spritework, an engaging story, a nice map, and so forth, they decided to make a really shitty 3d game. I have no doubt they will improve at their usual snail's pace, but the people that like their 3d content are judging it based on the criteria for a 2d game rather than the industry standard (wherein SWSH is laughably lackluster).
GF's 3d work is a proof of concept at best -- it is not good by any applied metric and anyone that says it is is simply biased
