Maylene having a Lucario was most likely just Lucario shilling before you met the the Lucario cosplayer that gives you the Riolu egg, as fighting a though Pokemon like Lucario early on is likely to make an impression.
Meditite and Medicham should have always been Maylene's ace and I hope they stick with it now, she would definetly stand out among so many Lucario users.
