Dude Mudkip is literally the easiest starter run in all of Pokemon.

It evolves to Marshtomp well before Wattson. It's immune to him and has Mud Shot to fuck literally all of his Pokemon.

Treecko is the hard mode.

Treecko is also the best mode.

That was my Emerald team.

As a kid my rationale was Magma and Aqua are both trying to fuck up the Earth. The type most helped by sunshine and rainfall, and most fucked by droughts and floods, is Grass.

So in Emerald my Grass-type trainer made sure to fucking restore the balance.
