The animations ARE longer, but animations don't even have that much effect on the battle length currently. The issue is the constant empty space between moves where the game just pauses for a second or to after EVERY action, the text boxes for every mechanic/action, and the fact that most of the game (especially in doubles) does everything one-by-one instead of simultaneously.
