I'm personally more fond of Colloseum, but that's really only because I've never actually owned a copy of XD myself. Only borrowed my friend's copy for like, a week. XD definitely gives you the wider choice of Pokémon and I've generally heard it's better than Colosseum. Just go with whatever is cheaper I guess?

Having good mons only goes so far. If you lack the skill to back it up then you'll eventually meet players who'll slap your shit in, especially players who are using mons that are just as good.

Competitive != Smogon. If Smogon isn't to your liking, Nintendo has official rulesets of their own which are popular, especially VGC.

If you play by Smogon's rules then play in a different tier. Admittedly there's only OU, LC, and Uber for now but other tiers will be formed.

Really, it's the only good aspect of the games. What else do they have? You can't explore the regions, because you're always forced to go in a certain path. The storylines are okay at best, certainly nothing you'd play a game just to see. There's no challenge whatsoever, since the AI is shit, healing centers are everywhere, and there's hardly a penalty for failure. Breeding is boring as fuck, if you do it to get a good team then I can respect that, but I doubt anyone plays the game for the goal of breeding.

So, I reiterate, what makes single-player mode more interesting than competitive play?
