Going back to the title list, "Excellent" comes after Master though, I wonder what's that one about...
Speaking of early development, something that still impresses me is the "genetical monster" plot being present so early in the game and surviving all the way to the release.

Hudson Soft did a wonderful job with that game, I feel like I've wasted more hours in PTCG and PTCG2 combined than in any mainline game. I still wish you could skip the intro tutorial, though. Is it just me or you can reliably choose a head or tails flip by pressing on specific frames of the coin flip animation?
