She quotes one at the end of the Enamorus sidequest (no other NPC in the game even acknowledges their existence), and that also happens to be the same sidequest where Cogita's dialogue heavily implies she is immortal. The Old Verses tell of a "cursed" woman mourning because her lover and everyone else she ever knew or loved died a long time ago but she is unable to die until she "fulfills her duty". She always wears black funeral outfit because that is what people mourning wear (e.g. funerals). You can actually look in Cogita's wardrobe and see 5 other black dresses that are exactly the same. Her losses have affected her greatly. Being immortal also explains her "always somber/disinterested with trivial matters" disposition similar to CC from Code Geass (another immortal woman). Her "duty" isn't exactly clear but it's implied part of it is helping the main character collect the 18 Arceus Plates/seal the spacetime rift. Cogita even says this when you first meet her. But she is still alive during the postgame, so there may be more to it than that. Anyway, she is REALLY old. Centuries old at minimum. Volo's post-battle dialogue also implies he is immortal, or Cynthia's entire bloodline is humans with this unnaturally long lifespan.
