People kinda want to go out of the traditional turn based rpg formula, that happened in Pokken but since it's locked to a nintendo console, as it should, suddenly it didn't take off as a Tekken of sorts. Also fighting games are hard in general but pokken has a really boring gameplay and ranged/zoning characters really ruined the fun in playing those.
People just want to be free to explore while having "freedom" in combat. Those aren't really amazing expectations in normal games but we are almost at 1000 different pokemons. Making a game like that will take much longer than the whole FF15 and as expected of GF who will put their hands on the game it will have poor coding and poor optimization. Also it will cost much more than the usual mainline games and will most likely create many issues in developing those mainline games, because everytime a new pokemon is released they will have to account for a new model for that other game in development.
That's unrealistic unless we're doing a new sort of Mystery Dungeon game, which cuts off the trainer and human players. Focusing the game only on pokemons and their movements, most likely having th player choose a single pokemon or two to play as. That may seem limited but is actually very optimal because it's perfectly possible to have 2 'live models' interacting with a world around them without having the company going bankrupt while developing such a masterpiece.
Thinking back maybe a fighting system like kingdom hearts could fit in another future pokemon game, that would offer part of the desired freedom while keeping the good old rpg formula.
That or they just keep doing shitty games every 2 years or so. Which also prints money and is easier to do.
Only spinoffs have a chance to be good but sadly this is a nintendo exclusive, so we will always have mediocre performance and a less optimized console.
tl;dr dream game is expensive and unrealistic, just tone it down and maybe copy another game.
