After going back to catch one and eventually breeding a new one, I realized there are many things about Butterfree I love.
The evolution line has a certain significance to me;
Caterpie-
aside from being ash's first poke it itself also symbolizes new beginnings, fresh slate, childhood and even nostalgic naivety.
Metapod-
Metapod to me symbolizes The hardships that await in a journey, and the strencth ones needs to surpass them. It symbolizes endurance and growth, two things I've needed in my life. I wont say had a sht life, but it definitly hasn't been a fun ride. Everytime I see metapod I see What I had to go through, and those small moments I was just about ready to let go and give up, and didn't. Endurance, Strength. Fearlessness.
Butterfree-
