>>27331200The thing about Pokemon designs to me is that as the generations go, they've tweeked and improved on the general style of the Pokemon themselves.
I can't help but feel that the 'worst designs' would honestly be the Gen I Pokemon, but this doesn't mean that the designs are bad at all. The only problem is that they're a product of the technology capabilities of the time. They're memorable because they are the first and original Pokemon.
As technology has advanced, we've been able to have Pokemon that are more complex and varied. The artists themselves have had time to practice and mess around with the design possibilities. You can easily see this as the generations go.
From Gen I's take on giving many Pokemon more of a 'realistic' feel and old '90's anime style', to Gen VII's cartoony and stylistic interpretation. It's clear the artists have had more and more fun with the designs.
I can only say that designs have improved since Gen I. Granted, style is rather subjective, so it varies from person to person. I doubt I'll ever really understand how people can dislike ___ Gen designs fully. I'll never understand the mentality for that.
So to me, Gen I is on the lower scale of Pokemon designs due to tech and the series itself testing the waters. There are many great Pokemon designs in Gen I still, but it does kind of suffer from the newer possibilities.
