Trying to make a PMD tabletop campaign, and I need ideas for the setting. Normally I'd go to /tg/ for this stuff, but you guys are 4chan's resident experts on pokemon so I figured I'd try here first. My group likes realistic (but not necessarily edgy/grimdark) takes on otherwise light settings, so with this in mind I need cool ideas for how a PMD society works. Politics, economics, religion, social divisions, maybe even some history, nothing is off limits.
What I have pinned down so far is that the setting is to be somewhere around the same level of civilization that was present in GTI. That is to say, big cities connected by trade routes supporting small post towns along them. Tech is all preindustrial, magical, or derived from unfathomably ancient human tech (humans are long extinct, considered to be an obscure myth in even the oldest of tales). Law enforcement, at least in the post towns, is done by resident or travelling mercenaries doing jobs for pay (For instance, the protagonists in every PMD game. This is also probably where the PCs fit in.), with the local government handling legal proceedings and punishment. Magnagate travel does exist, but it's so difficult to access and so dangerous its comparable to the warp in 40k, chaos gods and all. Mystery dungeons do exist as well, but are somewhat uncommon and most are only semi-random. The details change, but the general gist of the area stays the same: if you were sent to one to find a criminal, the two of you may remember the route differently, but ultimately you'd be able to find who you were looking for.
