>Contests>Poke ranger>Becoming professor's aide>Pokemon breeder>Being the equivalent of a pro athlete that mentors younger trainers>(Other pokemon related career paths)>Gym leader or elite 4 member of a region>Becoming another region's champion (again)As surely a pokemon master is skilled in many different fields, not just stuff related to collecting badges and participating in tournaments.
And by extension that means Misty, Brock, May, and more are all in retrospect working toward being pokemon masters but through different avenues and also were always ash's rivals. The only other alternative is Ash competing in the conferences he lost previously, and trying to become that region's champion as well.
As if being a region's champion (alola) and the world champion and #1 trainer in the world (masters eight) doesn't make him into a pokemon master now, and they are not going to have ash do what was previously considered 'side activities', they are running on fumes for where to take his character.
