As for soaring, would it be so hard to let you have it WITHOUT catching the pokemon? That's the whole point of having a flute in the first place, they shouldn't be able to listen your call from a box. And eventually that's EXACTLY what SM later did: letting you ride pokemon that aren't yours.

Aesthetics is something I loved about the ORAS league, although any less than that would have been dropping the ball coming right after XY.
