THIS is the real reason why the writers won't being back May, Contestshipping is too relevant to May's character to just drop it, while having an actual Pokegirl in a legit ship would be too controversial nowadays for OLM.
So it's easier to keep May off screen, I don't believe in the seiyuu conspiracy, that stuff is irrelevant to producers who can just recast
