I think it's clever that they can use such simple shapes and still invoke the thought of a crab. I don't mind that it might not fit with the style of Pokemon because that's what happens when your series is full of monsters drawn by different artists.
The pincers look more like boxing gloves in the 3D model, which I think makes a huge difference in its design.
