If your pokemon is male, every female pokemon it feints in battle has a chance of producing an egg which can be collected from the opposing NPC after three in game days time. Likewise if your pokemon is female and gets fainted there is a chance it will produce an egg which you can either turn over to the npc or keep for yourself. If you do keep the egg for yourself however you'll have to pay stipend to the opposing npc and temporary trade the egg to that npc every odd day.
