Pokemon typically don't appear outside of one or two areas, giving all of them a purpose. I remember certain areas better because they house specific Pokemon, like Reflection Cave for Psychic types, Glittering Cave for most of your early Rock Pokemon or fossils. "Swamp" Pokemon like Goodra, Guagsire and Stunfisk are in the bog close to Laverre City, and so on, so forth.
