Lost to Whitney twice in HG (both with a female geodude - jesus) so I switched to Platinum. Cynthia fight felt bad because:
>spiritomb (with a freeze) and lucario are fine, her togekiss tanks a jolteon t-bolt with 10% HP
>garchomp switches into jolteon's t-bolt and then uses dragon rush instead of EQ on my gyarados switch-in, getting a crit
>I thought I could take 1 dragon rush and chesto-rest but gyarados gets KO'd
>gastrodon comes in and gets OHKO'd by a crit EQ
>torterra gets burned by flamethrower and doesn't even make a dent, getting KO'd
>togekiss wish+air slash stalls for the KO on garchomp
>jolteon switches into her togekiss to heal off of shock wave and KO
>jolteon OHKO's milotic with a crit t-bolt
>jolteon sacrifices itself to paralyze+chip roserade and make sure togekiss can get in without dying to a crit sludge bomb
I'm glad I won (because Platinum is so hard and my favorite game to nuzlocke), but I haven't lost 4 mons in the champion fight in a while. If I hadn't lost scizor I might've been able to set up on spiritomb for a clean sweep, but he had swarm and I don't know if +6 bullet punch OHKO's garchomp without technician.
my other plan (which I frequently do with platinum) was intimidate switching+set-up with sub gyarados, which obviously didn't work out because of the first crit. I can't believe she predicted the switch - I had revealed Gyarados when I intimidated and took an aura sphere, but come the fuck on. Jolteon was low but would you really predict the switch and risk 80% accurate dragon rush over guaranteed EQ kill? pissed me off.
back to HG next, taking chikorita since my first 2 attempts failed. Both times I have strong teams, but stomp flinch is too strong and I can't set up geodude rock polish against Metronome Clefairy (and +6 honestly might not even outspeed).
