Maile is primarily cultivated for leis. It's endemic to the islands, and it's usually grown as a vine. It has a nice smell and it's mostly used for graduations, weddings, proms, political appearances, that sort of thing. They could just be going for a lei theme, but maile is mostly almost usually used for males at such events. I'm unsure about this given the feminine naming scheme, but that's a small detail. Possible typings could be fairy due to comfey and the sweet scent. Dragon or fighting due to usually being given for an achievement. I dunno, those two types seem pretty work hard and succeed to me. It looks like the ground is greenish when you talk to them, and this seems to be before anything big with Aether, so take your guesses as to totem and location.
