All pokemon come in a ton of varieties and colours and patterns like real life animals, similar to Spinda and Vivillion, but we only see the "common" varieties in the games and anime because it's easier to do.
I choose to belive this simply because I love seeing "alternate form" art for pokemon and wish it could exist in the games.
