>>41465738FF-XV got started as a Nomura-led game called FF-Versus XIII. Square wasn't really keen on the direction Nomura was taking VsXIII and wanted KH3 made, so they pulled him off the project, put Tabata on it, and it was rebranded FF-XV. Tabata, not for lack of care, kinda fucked the original project Nomura left for him. Characters got cut, huge sections of the plot were rewritten, cut characters were replaced with new characters that weren't very good, and the game was plagued with a lot of fucking problems in the technical department as well. Ultimately it was shipped like a year and a half undercooked. Tabata, actually caring about the product he produced, tried to get Square to patch it up with DLC, which did work for a year. FF-XV was drastically improved by leaps and bounds with the implementation of a lot of new story beats and mechanical brush-ups, including the return of features that had been cut from VsXIII and an improved combat system (read: the one advertised with VsXIII). However, Square ultimately decided that XV had run its course, cancelled the second season of DLC (which was meant to resolve the plot issues after Season 1 mostly resolved the mechanical issues), and showed Tabata the door, despite his protests on the matter.
Nomura was understandably not happy that his pet project was not only passed off to somebody else, but that Square had fucked it in the ass and thrown it aside like a used napkin in the end. KH3 had a lot of notes taken from Nomura's VsXIII concepts. A LOT. Including a tounge-in-cheek reference game within a game
yes I know, Sora gets to warp like Noctis, Riku now looks like Noctis, and a lot of other minor features shown off in VsXIII trailers are now KH3 features
except character switching, the one that I want come ON Nomura.A lot of KH fans are worried that Nomura's autism won't let him let get of VsXIII. This is understandable, because Nomura's autism is incredibly powerful.
