This week, I replayed Pokemon Platinum for the first time in maybe 9 years.
This game is truly something special. This was my first step into the world of Pokemon. I still have many memories of my time with this game, some of them funny, some of them traumatic:
> Getting stuck on Route 201 because I was too much of a brainlet at age 9 to realize there was a path leading towards the upper right to Professor Rowan's house.
> Getting the shiny event Pichu and immediately adding it to my team and evolving it since I had no idea it was tied to an event in HGSS.
> Getting absolutely assblasted when I misclicked the Bag icon during the Giratina fight, causing my to accidentally run from the boss. I then spent the next month guideless trying to find a way to reacquire him before eventually coming across Turnback Cave.
> Finding my first ever Shiny, a female Sneasel, and then immediately trading it with my friend for some shitty mon.
> Accidentally breaking the game's progression because a friend lent me his action replay for a week, so I ended up skipping a few Pokemon I was supposed to log in the Regional Dex. I had to eventually go through the arduous process of obtaining them myself, culminating in Happiny as the final Pokemon to register.
Despite these trials and tribulations, I still adore my time with this game. There's something magical about Sinnoh, and returning to it after so many years of having not touched it has rekindled that same childlike fascination I had with it back then. Treasure the memories you have of your first Pokemon game, bros. They're really something special.
