That said though it's not so much I'm looking for an in-depth analysis and immersion into a culture in a children's game, more so that due to the lack of research the regions kinda feel... samey? Hard to describe.
I think it's the reason they keep making new gameplay gimmicks, the regions themselves feel very similar to each other. It's the reason I think Alola was a step in the right direction. Whether they were good or not is up for debate, but the island trials felt like Alola had a distinct culture separate from Kalos and Johto. It's obviously something that the real Hawaii doesn't have, but it's that sort of worldbuilding that Pokemon lacks.
