Lysandre wasn't perfect, and he wasn't meant to be. His ideas are disturbingly realistic, that is to say there are actual people who genuinely share them. He actually did try to change the world in a meaningful way with his wealth and power, he says as such himself. His ultimate problem ended up being with human nature itself, and rather than change his approach to adjust for it, he opted to try and hit a reset button for humanity. However, Lysandre's plan was doomed to fail as he surrounded himself with many of the parasitic type of people he despised--It's a small detail, but Team Flare has an outrageously large initiation fee rather than any ideological filters. IMO it can be inferred that the fee served as proof of productivity, however the average Flare grunt was a self serving cunt that only took from others rather than do anything of worth. There's a political statement there, BW and XY both tried to touch on a political side in a small way.
