>>43721936I'm not him, but I used to work as a translator myself, and worked several other jobs that incidentally involved foreign languages in some capacity (such as QA). I fucking hate dealing with languages at work. You will always encounter people who will disagree with at least some part of your translations, despite being unqualified to translate themselves.
Examples:
>your boss criticizing your work because it "doesn't sound right," despite the fact he doesn't speak the language, and any "fixes" you end up making are in fact fixes to the original source material (ie. the translation wasn't bad, the material itself was bad)>people from unrelated/unqualified departments fucking up your translations (one company I worked for had a graphic designer who would refuse to input my translations verbatim and made her own personal changes)>dumbasses who will actually try to argue with you on what language a certain text is (some chink motherfucker pointed at some French text and tried to tell me it was Italian)>people who refuse to believe a text or document can contain typographical/grammatical errors, because they were supplied directly from the customer/client themselves, and they can do no wrong since they actually speak the language on a regular basis
