I actually think IVs are a good idea. For casual play between friends and for singleplayer playthroughs, they do the job they were intended to do - they make every pokemon feel unique. This should not change, it really helps the game in my opinion.
What they SHOULD do is normalize everyone's IVs when playing online in battlespot. Pokemon is inherently a children's game, and the barrier to entry is both daunting and ridiculous because of IVs. Things shouldn't be any more complicated than customizing EVs and move pools using breeding and the new super training feature, after that you really should be able to go online and have fun.
Keep IVs and IV breeding the way it is right now. It'll make the competitive people (and I am one) still work for their perfect pokemon in the standard 6v6 competitive format, and it'll make the online random matchmaking WAY more accessible to Pokemon's target demographic.
