Again, there's NO CORRELATION between a pumpkin and turnip other than they're plants. Just because you gave them jack o lantern faces doesn't really explain to anyone the correlation. If you have to explain why, or don't even have an explanation to why, then it's not a good design. Pokedex entries are supplementary explanation to how Pokemon look or what they do in their world. It's world building. Their designs have to automatically tell you, the viewer, what they're all about. The fun is you finding out whether they're a reference to a mythology, a real animal, etc. That's the difference between an interesting Pokemon design and a boring one.
Like, why have a turnip evolve into a pumpkin? What does it take for a turnip to change form? I suggest maybe keeping the turnip facade, but changing the creature itself.
