>keeps mentally regressing with every region, forgetting shit he's already learned over and over again>keeps staying only 10 years-old, time continues to lose its meaning as he continues to never age>used to frequently say "we'll meet each other again" to characters that never appear again or get revisited, which just makes him look like an insincere liar>has to keep losing leagues as an excuse to keep traveling to other regions>stagnant as fuck>went from having a personality into turning into an empty shounen protag and now has some personality back but it's bad generic anime comedy tropes.>this is ""character development""You know you're full of shit because the whole point of SM is the focus on other characters rather than Ash himself, because at this point Ash is a massive failure as a protagonist. This is why the new movies are using a new Ash.
>feeling of invincibilityThe first time Ash lost the league nobody thought "wow, you're really garbage and you'll never improve". He was just starting out and it made sense that he wouldn't be able to win it all after he got so many easy badges. People felt like he could reasonably improve with time and still end up achieving something that would put him as a pokemon master beyond the "chosen one" shit in the movies. 5 regions and 5 losses later it's become apparent that the writers don't care about the destination or the journey and will just keep regressing him as needed.
