i started with gen 1, i like the vast majority of gen 1 designs, i dislike kanto as a region though due to overexposure and yet i hold gen 6 high purely based on its pokemon designs.
i was pissed off at first when i heard how many new pokemon we were getting but when the entire dex minus like what? 4-5 pokemon? are shit then it ends up being a boon.
we will always have to put up with the shit pokemon unova added and yeah it did have a handful of good designs but that's no excuse for it filling the gen with shit tier filler designs which look either cringe worthy or putrid or a combination of the two
