I'll give the DP anime credit; they made Barry somewhat likeable. I think he's one of my least favorite rivals in the games, even more than the inoffensive but lame ones in the series post-BW. But he and his dad have been enjoyable to watch during this Twinleaf Festival thing.
I also really like how involved Johanna is in Dawn's portion of DP. With all of the game protagonist characters only ever having one parent at a time, they're really underutilized as characters. In the games anyway; Serena's mom had some moments, I guess, and May's parents were obviously there, though not to the extent that Johanna is involved (also ignore Max for the sake of this argument). Overall, I think Dawn's mom is just a very well used and developed character for a Pokemon parent. Probably as good a mom-character as Delia. It's a toss up on best dad between Uncle Mime and Norman though.
