The original anime was just going through the motions of the game while making Kanto bigger and feel more like a real world, but it was still just looking at a region I had seen through a new lens. Orange Islands was a land I had never seen before with brand new gyms, and the first regional variants.
I remember being really bummed that when I finally got Silver you couldn't go to the Orange Islands.
