Everyone was okay with the idea that Poke Balls did the shrinking that allowed people to keep Pokemon on their belts because a Poke Ball is some mystical magic technology that can somehow contain an entire living thing inside it and readily convert it to energy and transport it to a tiny habitat, or something. No one questioned it too hard because the functions of a Poke Ball are so out there that shrinking the Pokemon wasn't that big a deal, it was just another function of this insane piece of tech.
So when this game says its the POKEMON who make themselves tiny, somehow, that opens an whole new line of questioning like, how do Pokemon hunt each other if they can make themselves microscopic even after losing consciousness, how is this ability available to all Pokemon, how many KO'd, tiny Pokemon have people stepped on and fucking killed over the series, etc.
People dislike it because it raises more questions than it answers, on top of being fucking stupid.
