John. A short boy with greasy black hair wrapped in an equally greasy bandana. Wears a grimey, stained windbreaker, loose jeans held on by a loose belt, and yellow rubber gloves. Slung over his shoulder is a black garbage bag, filled with junk. On the whole, he looks and smells like a dumpster.
John has a passion for finding uses for the things the rest of us would throw away. He sees a shelf in a rotting plank, a quilt patch in a ripped shirt, and scrap metal in a tin can. In case you can't tell, John is a chronic dumpster-diver, and to see him rummaging through yours is now seen as a sort of compliment.
He gives you the Dowsing Machine when you enter the city for the first time, but you can't challenge his gym until you have five badges.
> Gym
The gym has two floors. On one, you must navigate a maze of junk with some large junk - trashed refrigerators or something - barricading your path. Every time you defeat a trainer, you can go to the second floor and use a giant claw machine to remove one of the barricades.

Gunk Shot.
> Badge
The Junk Badge, which looks like the top of a tin can - y'know, the part that separates when you use a can opener - with a button glued onto it. That's exactly what it is, of course.
