One might complain about people hating on the so called 'Smogon-pet' Pokemon, but on the other side of this spectrum there lies a thundering maelstrom of people who, upon seeing someone with affinity for outclassed pokemon, will derive some sense of accomplishment from tearing such a person apart - not in battle, but upon verbal encounter.
Most of these people that form this avalanche of spite don't even try to gather sufficient info from Smogon portal/community - but the Smogonisms and Smogontalk is nevertheless omnipresent around them just because it is fun to put someone down.
This phenomenon was never limited to /vp/. You can go to GameFAQ, Pokemonmdb, or whatever any other everyday 'regular' Pokemon portal and - without a fail - you will enounter frequent situations where people are told to never use a given pokemon ever again "beacuse Smogon wrote that it is shit and you have no reason for having it on your team, ever!".
This sort of subculture/phenomenon is exactly why people hate Smogon and Smogonfags, OP.
