So given we now exist in a world that runs on anime logic, I'd go down the Drayden route and wrestle my Pokemon. Not only would this make me a power house, It would also teach my mon unorthodox techniques and the ability to react without my instruction. Combine this with my natural affinity with animals (for some reason animals really like me), I unironically think I'd fare well.
