The main appeal is the ability. It makes Castform very versatile, allowing it to switch in on many Pokemon. It can be Water type, Rock Type, Fire Type, and Ice Type. Most of the time you'd probably lead with Sandstorm form to get that sweet 1.5x sp def.
Did I fix it? Hopefully GF gives Castform some love next gen with some stat boosts. I'd give it at least base 80 across the board.
