If it was Serena then we would KNOW it meant something but now we're stuck with Misty who literally does nothing new just repeats all the things she did in gen 1 even if it makes no sense like her suddenly being a fucking coward about talking to Ash.
It feels like they originally scripted this for Serena after her development and then decided "Fuck you, we need more NOSTALGIA" and wrote in Misty
