Cuz like, regional variants are cool and all, but they make the original obsolete. Case in point: Samurott. Literally no one cares about the original cuz Hisuian one is objectively better. Better stats, better ability, better signature move (oh, wait, og samu doesn't even have a signature move cuz every physical water type uses razor shell, also its a mid move)
tl;dr: Megas are better cuz even if they go away, they'll still give the original mons a buff. Regionals post alola all serve more to replace the original with a cooler and better form.
