For a company that tries so hard to make its games accessible to even the most braindead of children, GameFreak sure goes out of its way to actively hinder people from accessing the more competitive aspects of the game.
>was trying to find a hidden ability Pokemon in gen 5 today
>have to resort to Hidden Grottoes in BW2
>never really bother with these before so look up their in-depth mechanics online
>empty grottoes have a 5% chance to refill every 256 steps (unless you have Pass Powers from a dead local multiplayer service, not a very future-proof design choice in retrospect)
>once refilled, there's an 80% chance it will be an item, and a 20% chance of being one of a handful of Pokemon (specifically, the Pokemon I wanted was 4%)
>AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, grotto encounters' gender ratios are specifically skewed more towards being males, and are coded NOT to be affected by a lead Pokemon with Cute Charm
>in a gen where ONLY females could pass HAs down through breeding
This is some artificial rarity bullshit right here, and for what reason? Yes, "hidden" abilities should be harder to come by, not so impossibly locked behind multiple rolls of RNG that it's unreasonable to get them on anything other than wild shitmons. It's no wonder people use battle sims, GameFreak creates a game with this much depth and this many variables and literally goes out of their way to discourage people from controlling those variables. If they weren't "the Pokemon guys", they wouldn't get away with blatantly anti-consumer bullshit like this. (And yes, I know HAs became more manageable in later gens, but really, GF's overall mentality regarding accessibility to the deeper mechanics of their games has hardly changed one bit, considering all the arbitrary hoops we still have to jump through to get optimal IVs, EVs, egg moves, etc.)
Might as well make something out of this blog post, so let's make this a "bitching at GameFreak" thread. What do you hate the most about these greedy cunts?
