Flashbacks happen if you're into story-based elements, you get to battle Bianca and Cheren with their BW teams, and you get a "true final battle" of sorts with N in his ruined castle. Depending on the season, his team changes to work around a certain weather condition, and he can be rebattled every month. It's definitely a step above the other games, where you get no transferable reward for beating those games.
