The only idea I've had for bugs is a pair of Grasshoppers I call "Hopter" and its evolution "Helocust". The idea is that, instead of wings, they instead have propellers on their backs that they wind up through muscular action to go whooshing into the air for a short time. Hopter has one propeller, Helocust has two. Hopter is cute, Helocust looks like Hopper with a heli-pack.
