Theory: Pokemon Generations Should Have Been Actual Fucking Generations

The skip that Generation 5 did that broke the pattern was that they made it in the same handheld as Generation 4.
Before then it was attached to a hardware upgrade.
Gen 1 - Game Boy
Gen 2 - Game Boy Color
Gen 3 - Game Boy Advance
Gen 4 - Nintendo DS
By this pattern, Gen 5 could have been 3DS and Gen 6 our Switch versions. Then 'Generations' of Pokemon would be proper generations instead of year packs, with expected games every year.
This meant generations were no longer upgrades to the experience like before, with new technology to accommodate the changes, meant Pokemon was no longer a product adapting to new hardware but to yearly expectations. Generations were just seasons.
Pokemon Generation 5 should have Generation 6 and 7 in a sort of fusion for 3DS release as the proper Generation 5, think Sun/Moon graphical options for Unova. Seasons, The N Castle stuff with 3DS Hardware, and have given Generations Breathing Room to get excited for the new Generation. Plus, they'd have had more time in development, more time to get the proper execution for the generation together. 3DS Unova and Hoenn.
And then Kalos and Sinnoh for the Switch, and so on. Being actual parts of Nintendo's roster and not beholden to yearly turnouts.
