I don't give a shit about the Battle Frontier, exploration, graphics, or anything really. At one point I might have said I did, but it may have been some sort of delusion. My enjoyment out of the pokemon games since I first started playing was collecting the pokemon and seeing those boxes grow as the years went by.
I think FRLG, HGSS, and ORAS are boring games, but I honestly didn't know why for the longest time. And I loved Black and White a lot but didn't care for BW2 a whole lot and I never really knew why. It was because of the new pokemon, but I didn't know that at the time of the release. Hell, I even gave XY and SM a pass on their releases because it had new pokemon.
The first fucking crack was USUM. I guess I can say that my tastes in vidya was becoming more strict because I can't tolerate cutscenes anymore. I wasn't going to play what was basically a patched SM just for five or so new pokemon. It turned an optional purchase (like Platinum, Emerald, Crystal) into a mandatory purchase if I wanted to complete my pokedex. That shit didn't fly with me. It's one thing to put new forms, but barely a few new pokemon is scummy as shit. I had other ways to get the USUM pokemon in the future anyway, so I was just waiting for the new gen to roll out.
And I fucking remember seeing SwSh and thinking that people were out of their fucking minds shit talking the new trailer. We knew nothing of it and I was still willing to give it a shot just because there would be dozens of new pokemon. I was willing to tolerate everything else because of that.
Then the fucking Dex cull happened. That killed any interest I had immediately. It made me finally see how mediocre this game would be, how I've fucking stuck with mediocrity that all these games are just because I only liked one aspect of the series. That's the only conclusion I came to why I couldn't purchase Gen 8. I'm tired of stale shit, and I'm not spending a fucking dime on Home for pokemon storage, which the old games had.
