>>53271561A DS lite is a good alternative but if possible it's better to get a GBA SP. The screen is a little smaller on the DS lite and it can't play GB or GBC games. I use all of them and they all have their benefits and downsides. The DS lite is a nice "budget" alternative and it just werks. You get used to GBA games sticking out just like GB games on the GBA even if it's not ideal. The original GBA has the best hand feel and the best two handed soft reseting. The micro has become crazy expensive but and a lot of people hate it for being too small but it's fun to just pop it in your pocket. Two handed soft reseting is also pretty good but the trigger buttons suck. The SP doesn't have the best hand feel or two handed soft reseting but it has a great screen, overall it feels durable and convenient.
Here is my personal use:
>original GBAI honestly only have them for novelty. I'm too lazy to mod them and I don't find them ideal for regular use. The screen is not great even in good lighting.
>microIt used to be my main use unit and it worked for me. It's cute and the screen is 1:1 so it's unpixelated.
>SPMy current main unit. I have two I rotate when the battery dies. It's very versatile.
>DS liteWith GBAs getting pricey I use them as a safety. I find them almost as good as an SP.
Whatever GBA you get I recommend looking carefully at the screen. I feel for every LCD GBA I have one that has a screen with washed out blacks and another with deep rich blacks. Some also have whiting on the corners.
