Since SuMo was the first time your rival (Hau, an obvious friendly rival) was shown to have the starter that was weak to yours, lots of people were speculating that she might secretly be the 'jerk rival' in contrast.
And almost all of it was built upon that one image, where she happens to look slightly upset. I'm honestly still kinda sad we didn't get that kind of characterisation with her, but at least we got Gladion.
