Not only does Water have great coverage by itself but just about every Water type Pokemon learn Ice Beam of Ice Fang, thus allowing them to hit Grass and Dragon super effectively. Not only is Water an excellent type offensively but it's also one of the best defensive types. There's a reason for the term "bulky Water types". Rotom-W, Gyarados (bulky or offensive), Tentacruel, Politoed, Jellicent, Slowbro, Unaware Quagsire, Azumarill, Protean Greninja, Kingdra, Milotic... The list of excellent Water type Pokemon just goes on and on and they're all top tier threats in OU. Even the king of Ubers, Kyogre, is Water type. Water is among the best offensive AND defensive types and they're capable of doing pretty much anything. Water is also the most common type in the Pokemon games. Just like many people have said before me, Water is Masuda's type waifu.
